After Twitter campaign, UFC to air Mighty Mouse vs. Kid on Facebook

The UFC announced today that they will air the Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson vs. Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto bout on their Facebook page, just as they did for two preliminary bouts from "Fight for the Troops 2." If you hadn't already "liked" their page from Fight for the Troops, do it this week to see the Mighty Mouse/Kid bout.

Over the past few weeks, Johnson had campaigned to have his bout aired. He encouraged his Twitter followers to contact UFC president Dana White, also through Twitter, to urge the UFC to put his fight on TV. Though the fight won't be on television, it will be free and available to anyone with internet access and a Facebook account.

This is another occasion of the UFC understanding social media like few other sports companies. In Johnson, they have a fighter who rallied fans to use Twitter to get what he wanted. The UFC was smart enough to give the fans what they wanted it, but still leverage it to expand the reach of their Facebook page.

With this bout airing on Facebook, three fights from UFC 126 will air before the pay-per-view begins. After Johnson and Yamamoto's bout airs on Facebook, Paul Kelly vs. Donald Cerrone and Chad Mendes vs. Michihiro Omigawa will air on Spike TV.
