Miley Cyrus Slams "Friday" Singer Rebecca Black

Miley Cyrus Slams "Friday" Singer Rebecca Black

Miley Cyrus worked hard to become the teen sensation she is today -- and she seems a little bitter about Rebecca Black's overnight success. Never mind that Black, 13, became famous because of her so-bad-it's-good vanity single "Friday." That song has now spent two weeks climbing the Billboard Top 100 -- meaning that tens of thousands of people like it enough to buy it. But it's safe to say that Cyrus, 18, isn't one of them.

"It should be harder to be an artist," Cyrus told the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph when asked about Black's viral success. "You shouldn't just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour."

Since Cyrus essentially sacrificed her teen years to Disney in exchange for stardom, we understand why she'd harbor some resentment towards Black. And yet, they're not exactly in competition. Miley is an established performer and recording artist with legions of fans. Black is a semi-talented kid who struck gold, and that's exactly her appeal: Tween girls who aren't as gifted or photogenic as Cyrus can look at Rebecca Black and say, "I could do that!" Miley clearly has the long-term advantage -- so maybe she should back off and let Rebecca Black enjoy her 15 minutes.

Even without Miley in her court, Black is getting a lot of love these days. Her brand-new official Twitter account has nearly 80,000 followers. Her video is approaching 7 million YouTube views. And after Justin Bieber jokingly performed "Friday" at a recent concert, Black fans started a petition to convince Bieber to sing a duet with her. Right now it's only got 1200 signatures -- but you know that if Justin Bieber takes advice from anyone (besides his "swagger coach"), it'll be from his fans. Never say never, right?
