We've just refreshed Australian artist; David Williams' profile on COTW with some new art, namely "protest art", against the way 'we' are treating the oceans, particularly sharks! The artist commented; "I'm scared for Sharks... 'We' are eating them to death, but mostly removing their fins & leaving the rest to make Shark Fin Soup... Katy Perry Recalls Grueling Makeup Process For 'E.T.' Video

Clip premieres on MTV tonight at 7:53 p.m., followed by a live 'MTV First' interview with Perry on MTV.com.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Sway Calloway

We're just hours away from the premiere of Katy Perry's highly anticipated "E.T." video, featuring Kanye West, on MTV and MTV.com. From what we've seen so far — particularly with her complex makeup and costumes — this new clip is definitely Perry's most over-the-top and highly stylized yet.

MTV News correspondent Sway recently sat down with the "Teenage Dream" singer to chat about the extensive makeup process involved in the clip.

"It was, like, five and six hours, each makeup look," Perry said, admitting that it was a challenge for her to remain patient during the process.

"It was hard for me! It was really a patience thing for me on this video," she said. "But, you know, it's like when you're doing a film. Sometimes you have to do prosthetics, and you have to get really old or turn into an animal or a monster — and that's kind of what this process was."

And after the five- to six-hour application process, how long did it take Perry to get out of her getup? "Like, 10 minutes," she said, laughing.

The "E.T." video will premiere online today at noon on MTV.com, VH1.com and LogoTV.com. Then, "MTV First: Katy Perry's 'E.T.' " will bow on air at 7:53 p.m. ET before tossing to an MTV.com live stream, featuring MTV News correspondent Sway's exclusive chat with Perry, an interview with director Floria Sigismondi and reaction from Perry's fans.

Don't miss the premiere of Katy Perry's "E.T." video, featuring Kanye West, at 7:53 p.m. ET tonight on MTV, followed by our live "MTV First" interview with Katy Perry on MTV.com!

Jim Miller finishes Kamal Shalorus for seventh straight win at UFC 128

He's about as unimposing as they come in the world of mixed martial arts, but anyone who's watched Jim Miller these last few years knows it's a mistake to underestimate the kid from Northern New Jersey.

Kamal Shalorus was one tough cookie, but he eventually fell victim to Miller's composed attack at UFC 128 Saturday night. In the third round, the Iranian was stunned by a left uppercut and then floored by a left knee to the side of the head. Miller jumped on top and unloaded 15-plus punches, forcing a TKO stoppage at the 2:15 mark in Newark, N.J.

The 27-year-old Miller has now ripped off seven straight wins and is clearly in line for a title shot. One problem, that line is pretty long with Gray Maynard and Anthony Pettis in front of him.

Shalorus (7-1-2, 0-1 UFC) was game the entire way. After an excellent amateur wrestling career, he's made a nice transition to MMA and the standup game. He throws his kicks and punches with massive power, but he was dealing with a different animal in a veteran like Miller.

Miller (20-2, 9-1 UFC) never got crazy with his attack. While Shalorus fired vicious shots, Miller picked his spots and landed plenty of counterpunches with both hands. He was very effective in the opening round with the counter right hook. By the end of the round, there was significant bruising below Shalorus' left eye.

Miller was dynamite in the second. With 3:20 left, he scored a single-leg takedown and transitioned in a split second to take Shalorus' back. Miller worked for a choke until the end of the round. The best he could do was squeeze the heck out of the Iranian's chin and jaw on several occasions. That was a lot of work without producing a finish, yet Miller got up between rounds and looked like he was ready to go three more rounds. He even refused to sit on the stool between rounds.

Khloe Kardashian: I Think Kim Is Flawless

Khloe Kardashian is showing off her God-given goodies on the cover of Cosmopolitan's Middle East edition. But the reality star says that body image has always been a touchy subject for her and her famous sisters.

"Kim and Kourtney have said to me, 'If we were put under the same negative attention that you are, we couldn't handle it.' If I want to wear a long flowing dress, someone will say I'm pregnant," the Khloe & Lamar star tells the mag. "I believe we're not given any more than we can handle and most of the time I can handle it. But we all have fat days and if I'm having one of those days, those sorts of things make me feel down."

Khloe, who is over the moon to be featured on her very first Cosmopolitan cover, admits that she's pretty surprised when sister Kim complains about her body.

"Kim, who I think is flawless, is always complaining. She complains about cellulite and I tell her, 'I'll trade your cellulite for my love handles.'"

But Khloe can't deny that, despite the occasional criticism, she still gets plenty of praise for her curves for fans.

"Girls tell me and my sisters, 'We love your booties,' Khloe reveals. "Just yesterday a really thin stylist said to me, 'I wish I had your booty. I don't have one.'"

All day, Britney Spears is taking over MTV. That takeover includes a trailer for MTV's upcoming special about the pop star, "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale," which will take fans inside Britney's life to see what it's like to release a highly anticipated album.

Before the trailer premieres tonight at 7:58 p.m., teasers will air throughout the day. In the sneak peeks, fans get to see Spears work on the just-released Femme Fatale, including going over final production with will.i.am on their collabo. "I did some tweaking to 'Big Fat Bass,' " the Black Eyed Peas mastermind tells Spears as she gives the song another listen.

While on the way to rehearsals for her pre-album performances — including her set this past Friday at the Palms in Las Vegas, which will be included in "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" — Spears admits to having some "jitterbugs." It is, after all, her first time back onstage since the Circus Tour.

In another intimate look at the singer's life, fans get to see Spears and her assistant as they go to Starbucks to take a minute for themselves in the hustle-and-bustle of a hectic schedule. "It's nice to have a peaceful moment just to sit down," Spears says. "It's nice to relax before the chaos."

That chaos included getting fans excited for her album release. On top of taking the stage in Vegas for a set full of pyro, shimmering bodysuits and flirty dance moves, Spears also pre-taped today's "Good Morning America" performance in San Francisco's Castro neighborhood. "I totally loved how her bustier was lit up," fan Corina Andrati excitedly told MTV News moments after Spears wrapped her three-song set. "I'm so blessed to be here."

Will Flores Part

Will Flores does some heavy shit in his part from the Texas scene video, In Retrospect.

Exciting News

I have all but abandoned this blog and, for that, I am sorry. I am, however, going to get back to it because... wait for it, wait for it... I'm moving to LA for six months starting in June and I'm going to share every dirty detail with you!

You see, Mark and my good friend Patty are executive producers of a new television show that will be taping in New York from June to November. Instead of him getting his own apartment here, we thought it would be more fun to trade places. It's going to be like The Holiday and I get to be Kate Winslet. I'M GOING TO HAVE A CAR AND EVERYTHING. (Watch. Out.)

I'm looking forward to a change of scenery and have other friends out there besides him. Also, the movie is being released at the end of September, so it will be fun to be out there for that.

So anyway, that's what I've been up to—planning all this and getting ready for my (temporary) move. Stay tuned!

Don't Expect Coaching Confrontations on TUF 13

by Michael David SmithJunior dos SantosDuring the 12-season run of The Ultimate Fighter, many of the most memorable moments have involved the show's coaches. Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz wanted to kill one another. So did Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson. Josh Koscheck spent most of his time on the show trying to get under Georges St. Pierre's skin. Multiple coaches have broken the door that leads into the Ultimate Fighter gym.

But from the way Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos are talking, moments like those are going to be lacking on the 13th season of the show, which begins on Wednesday night. On a conference call to promote their show, Lesnar and dos Santos were nothing but respectful toward each other, and they indicated that they both prefer to save any negative energy they feel for each other until they fight in June.

Katy Perry Praises Beyonce In Elle

'I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyoncé makes it,' the pop star says in the magazine's cover story.
By Jocelyn Vena

Katy Perry not only glams up for the new issue of Elle, but she also gets real. The singer — who is gearing up for a big performance on this Sunday's Grammy Awards — dishes on diva behavior, discusses her personal life and even reveals how much she weighs in the fashion magazine's latest cover story.

"I feel like I'm at a point in my life right now where I could potentially stick around," Perry says about her outlook on being a pop star. "I don't feel like a diva, but I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyoncé makes it. And maybe I can't be Beyoncé, but maybe I can be Cyndi Lauper. I mean be like her, not be her. That would just be weird."

The singer also admits to having some ambitions outside of the entertainment world. "I think some people will die on the stage, and I'm not so sure I want to do that. Like, I want to have kids!" she explains. "I'm totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they're worried it's going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life."

That full life, these days, includes her hubby, Russell Brand, who she says is her perfect better half. "Everything clicked really fast. We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn't been a dull moment," she says. "We both needed balance, and we give that to each other. It wasn't about me taming him, which is what everyone always says — it was about timing."

Perry doesn't hold back at all, revealing details about her weight that very few celebrities seem willing to share with the world. "I was shaped like a square at one time. I was! I'm generally around 130 pounds, which is totally fine for me," she confesses. "But when I was a kid, I was the same height and weighed more like 145. And I had enormous boobs that I didn't know what to do with, so I wore minimizers, which were not cute. Those thick-ass straps! I got made fun of for the over-the-shoulder boulder holder ... and all I wanted was to look like Kate Moss. Little did I know ... that these things would come in handy someday."

What do you think about Katy's Elle confessions? Share your thoughts in the comments.

'Sucker Punch' DVD Will Include R-Rated Footage, Zack Snyder Says

Zack Snyder also describes the difficulty of editing for a PG-13 rating.
By Kara Warner

Emily Browning in "Sucker Punch"
Photo: Warner Bros./ Legendary Pictures

In case you haven't already seen, heard or read enough about Zack Snyder's action-adventure-fantasy "Sucker Punch," MTV News has you covered. In addition to our catch-all guide to the film and secrets revealed, today we bring you more from Snyder regarding the highly technical aspects of the shoot, as well as what fans can expect on the DVD and Blu-ray.

"The train sequences were the hardest technically to shoot only because it's a sequence that's broken up into maybe 120 shots that look like one shot," Snyder revealed. "So you just kind of have to know where the camera's going and where it came from, and put these little camera moves in, and all these shifts that have to happen," he said.

Snyder went on to say that he and his filmmaking team had the same sort of problems with the Samurai fight sequence, but they approached them differently.

"It was a little easier to do, but the thing that challenged us there was, of course, the scale was crazy," he said. "Ryan, who's one of my stuntmen, he would stand on a big piece of scaffolding and he would fight Emily [Browning] with this long stick," he explained. "Because she had to have an eye line to him up there. So he had this kind of flexible stick that he would try to hit her with."

Will we see any of that behind-the-scenes footage on the DVD?

"Yeah, sure," he said. "I think there is coverage of that."

Regarding what else will appear on the home-video-viewing versions of the film, Snyder teased that there will be a lot of action.

"There is about 18 minutes in the Blu-ray that is mostly action, because the MPAA was not ... [there was] a little too much action," he said, adding that taking the film from an R-rating to PG-13 was also a challenge.

"I would say that the very things that they [the MPAA] didn't like were the very things that you needed to see in order for you to understand the content of the scene," he said. "To know how to feel about it, because otherwise you're sort of left in this weird middle ground," he said. "So it's difficult. It's tricky."

Check out everything we've got on "Sucker Punch."

Hale Wins by Inverted Triangle, Bellator Light Heavyweights Advance

by Michael David Smith

In 2009, Toby Imada put Bellator Fighting Championships on the map by defeating Jorge Masvidal with an incredible inverted triangle choke submission, a highlight that became a viral video and was widely regarded as the best submission of the year in mixed martial arts.

Now lightning has struck twice for Bellator.

On Saturday night's Bellator card, Richard Hale used the same move -- the inverted triangle -- to choke Nik Fekete into unconsciousness. It was a sensational highlight, and exactly the kind of thing Bellator needs to attract attention on its new television home, MTV2.

Deadmau5 Lights Up Ultra Music Festival In Miami

Thousands of 'mau5-heads' gathered downtown for a massive, progressive-house set.
By Stephen Alex Vasquez

MIAMI — We all know Joel Zimmerman, a.k.a. deadmau5, knows how to put on a hell of a show, like when he graced the stage at that little event known as the MTV Video Music Awards. His live production is both exciting and intricate, including a massive new LED lighting setup, token mau5 head, and that awe-inspiring cube. And it was no different when MTV News hit up the Ultra Music Festival on Saturday.

Deadmau5's amazing stage setup is part of why he stands apart from other acts — that as well as his excellent production value and impeccable transitions during live performances. We hit up day two of the Ultra fest to see what new tricks deadmau5 would have in store.

This year, tens of thousands of mau5-heads were treated to a very minimal, progressive-house opener. The mood shifted once the hypnotic Sofi dazzled the stage alongside rocker/boyfriend Tommy Lee, who was drumming to the smash "Sofi Needs a Ladder"; the song was followed by his dubstep-infused thumper "One Trick Pony."

The performance shifted in tone and energy throughout the set, hitting classic mau5 bombs like his Rob Swire vocal edit of his breakthough hit "Ghosts N Stuff." The large set, combined with stunning visuals and the energy from the 50,000 or so fans in attendance, was only heightened by the Downtown Miami backdrop. Deadmau5's Ultra Music Festival 2011 was a night for him to shine and, no doubt, one for the ages.

Be sure to stick with MTV News for more on Ultra Music Festival and the rest of the action during Miami Music Week!

Phenom Jones blows away Rua to take light heavyweight title at UFC 128

The pace at which MMA is evolving is amazing and Jon Jones is full proof of that. Bigger, more athletic and harder working athletes are getting into the sport everyday. Jones, a good college wrestler from a family of football players, just completed a short three-year journey to take out one of the greats of MMA with relative ease.

Jones pummeled Mauricio "Shogun" Rua on the feet and ground for two and half rounds. The Brazilian couldn't take anymore and slumped to the canvas at the 2:37 mark of third round giving the UFC light heavyweight title to the 23-year-old Jones at UFC 128 in Newark, N.J.

"It feels go good. It's a testament that dreams do come true guys. They really can, believe in yourself," Jones told UFC analyst Joe Rogan following the victory. "It means a lot to me, but I know it also means I have a huge target on my back. And when you guys come to strike at me, I'm going to strike right back."

The 6-foot-4 Jones is really unlike any athlete the UFC has ever seen aside from former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. He walks around at roughly 225 pounds, but his frame looks like it could easily carry 250 pounds. His football playing brothers are massive. Chandler, a defensive lineman at Syracuse, is 6-6, 251 and his older brother Arthur, is a 6-3, 313-pound tackle in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.

The dwarfed Rua (19-5, 3-3 UFC) was in trouble from the opening seconds of the fight. A very well-rounded fighter, Rua looked like amateur in the clinch, on the ground and even standing up. Just 20 seconds in, the fighters clinched and Jones did what he's done to every previous opponent, he tossed Rua on his head like he was fighting a lightweight.

Anytime the fight was on the feet, Jones kept Rua at long distance and delivered a bevy of front, leg and body kicks. He was also devastating with his knees. Jones, who appears closer to 6-5 or 6-6, used his height to grab Rua's head on multiple occasions to deliver nasty knees to the body from a thai clinch.

By the end of the first round, Rua looked out of gassed and stunned. The onslaught continued in the second. Jones did damage with a nasty front kick and an inside leg kick with three minutes in the round. Amazingly, Rua, who's known for his kicks, hadn't thrown one the entire fight. Jones scored another takedown with 2:33 left in the round and showed great patience. He wore down Rua with forearm across his chin and grinding elbows across his face.

In the third, Jones got top control again when Rua made a desperate attempt at a leg lock. The Brazilian stayed out of trouble for a few seconds before Jones landed some nasty elbows. After getting abused on the ground for nearly a minute, Rua scrambled and as he tried to get to his feet, he got crushed by a knee to the body. He was hurt badly and immediately stumbled across the Octagon to put his back on the fence. Jones, possessing incredible killer instinct, threw a vicious body shot to Rua's right side. He went down in a heap. That was it. He had no more fight left in him.

UFC analyst Joe Rogan captured the scene by saying, "That ladies and gentlemen is the future and the present!" Rogan went on to say that Jones might be the greatest natural talent the sport has ever seen.

Rua, 29, was once the future of the sport. He shocked the world by winning the PRIDE 205-pound Grand Prix back in 2005. Shogun, just 23 at the time, wrecked a field filled with legendary fighters like Vitor Belfort, Alistair Overeem, Quinton Jackson, Dan Henderson, Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Ricardo Arona and Wanderlei Silva.

Will Ferrell, Jon Stewart Crack Jokes At The Comedy Awards

'The Golden Globes celebrate comedies every year — comedies like 'Burlesque' and 'The Tourist,' ' Andy Samberg points out to MTV News.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Will Ferrell arrives at the Comedy Awards on Sunday
Photo: Getty Images

If there were an awards show to celebrate the very best in comedy, you'd probably want Will Ferrell and Adam McKay there on the red carpet riffing about how "The Other Guys" was snubbed at the Oscars and now finally their genius is being recognized.

"I was with Will during the Academy Awards, and he slowly got drunker and said, 'What about my kind?' " you'd want McKay to say.

"I kept saying, 'It has to be nominated! It has to be on there!' " Ferrell would answer.

"And I said, 'Will, we know ahead of time if it's going to be nominated," McKay would respond.

And Ferrell would shoot back, "'No, tonight's going to special! They're going to announce a secret nomination.' "

Here's the funny thing: There is such an awards show — Comedy Central held the first annual Comedy Awards on Saturday night — and that exchange is exactly how Ferrell and McKay began a red-carpet chat with MTV News. And as other celebs joined them on the carpet — Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, Andy Samberg, Tracy Morgan — they picked up on Ferrell and McKay's theme: Does comedy need an awards show, or is laughter all the reward comedians need?

"It's all about winning things!" Andy Richter declared. "That's the reason we all got into this. It's all about trinkets and trophies."

Not so, said Stewart. "I'm not sure anything needs acknowledgement anymore, especially in the show-business arena," the "Daily Show" host told us. "But here's what I think it is: These carpets get no other use, and it would be wasteful not to use them. If you think about it that way, none of this is necessary."

Samberg, meanwhile, deadpanned that before the Comedy Awards, there was one show in particular around to reward the funniest people of the year. "The Golden Globes celebrate comedies every year — comedies like 'Burlesque' and 'The Tourist,' " he said. "And 'Chicago' — another hilarious comedy. So no, we don't need this night."

The Korean Zombie Bandwagon Reloads, And Other Fair-Weather Tales

Filed under:

If you think the stock market trades on emotion and snap judgments, what about the world of MMA, where this morning's prodigy is tomorrow morning's garbage? It would be comical to see the seismic opinion shifts that take place before and after events if it wasn't so sad. Complaints are plentiful about how quick the UFC and other organizations are to cut fighters who lose two or three in a row, yet is there any greater sense of loyalty shown from other quarters of the MMA world?

Here's the thing about being a pro fighter: it's hard. Your body gets beat down, your confidence betrays you at times. The media and fans openly question you, your commitment, you endurance, and your all-around game. Matchmakers stick you in the cage with opponents that are good at the things you're not so good at.

Where is a fighter's safe harbor? Look, we're not supposed to like everything shoved down our throats. There are performances that deserve to be booed, and fighters who are difficult to appreciate. There are style clashes that lead to stalemates. But the wild, overreactive swings from one fight to the next make me feel that a dramamine prescription wouldn't be a bad idea.

Photos from a golden era of surfing

We found this really cool post (on a car forum!), where a guy has put together a great selection of vintage photos sourced from the LIFE Magazine website. This led us to having a dig around ourselves, and there’s some great photo collections on there, below is the original link to the forum post, some [...]

Buzz builds for guest Octagon Girl at Brazil event

With Ultimate Fight Night 24 in the books, it's time to concentrate on the important things in life - who will be the guest Octagon Girl in Brazil?

Cage Potato stumbled across this interesting candidate. For those who like images of the beaches in Rio de Janeiro and the skimpy bathing suits comes Juliana Salimeni.

She popped in a recent Sherdog photoshoot of the TUF 13 set in Las Vegas. Apparently, she's a pretty popular television personality in Brazil. The UFC may need a teeny-bit more fabric for the Octagon girl uniform shorts. As long as she stays away from the N.Y. Jets and Joy Behar, Ms. Salimeni (NSFW) should be fine. Let's root for her to make it to the August UFC event in Brazil.

Lil Wayne Renews His Love For New York At Long Island Shows

Closing the second night of the I Am Still Music stop at Nassau Coliseum, Weezy gives a shout-out to his Rikers COs.

UNIONDALE, New York — It's been roughly two weeks since Lil Wayne returned to the big stage with his I Am Still Music Tour. He's been tearing up venues across the country in the days that followed, but there was something sentimental about his two nights of sold-out shows at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum.

After all, just a few months ago, a little more than 20 miles away, Wayne was doing hard time at Rikers Island, serving a one-year prison sentence on weapons charges stemming from the 2007 arrest that followed his show at New York's Beacon Theatre. On Monday night, Wayne exchanged the 8-foot cell he was housed in at the Eric M. Taylor Center for a hockey arena and thanked fans for their support during his down time.

"A few months ago, I was stuck in this island," Wayne told the audience. "This place called Rikers Island. It was people like Drake and people like y'all who made me feel like I was in a paradise of love. Shout out to the COs I'm cool with, but tell the warden to kiss my ass."

But in reality, Weezy showed no signs of bitterness toward the state he unwillingly called home for the majority of 2010. The larger-than-life MC appeared onstage sporting a blue and orange New York Knicks cap, his signature polo shirt and black leather pants.

Wayne closed out his New York run backed by a live band, unearthing a catalog of smash hits including "Mrs. Officer," "Go DJ" and "Got Money" as well as mixtape cuts such as "I'm Single" and "Bill Gates." With appearances by Lil Twist, Mack Maine, Shanell and Nicki Minaj, Weezy continued to make the point that his Young Money movement was reminiscent of previous rap powerhouse cliques who made their marks in the hip-hop game.

"Remember how Diddy had his artists? And Jay had Roc-a-fella, and Baby had all his artists?" Wayne asked. "Well, I have all my artists."

Halfway through his set, Wayne introduced Minaj, and the Queens MC ripped through her own records for her hometown crowd. Nicki ignited the audience with hits "Roman's Revenge" to "Did It on 'Em" to the celebratory "Right Through Me" anthem, for which she donned a wedding dress. And as she assisted Wayne on "Roger That" he appeared to be stunned by Nicki's tight, ripped-up jeans.

"Make some noise for the best rapper aliiive," Nicki yelled at the crowd, referring to Wayne as she exited the stage. "Make some noise for them pants!" Wayne shot back.

Preceeding Wayne's set, Rick Ross also ignited the coliseum with his array of hits and a surprise guest appearance by close friend DJ Khaled, who joined him for "We Takin' Over." Khaled also showed his New York support wearing a New York Yankees clubhouse jacket.

The show had emotional moments in between songs too. Wayne took time to send prayers for earthquake victims in Japan and acknowledged members of the military in the audience who came out to support the MC in their uniforms.

"We got a couple soldiers in here; make some noise for these men," Wayne said, removing his tinted shades as the house lights spotlighted the warriors.

On the night of his arrest years ago, Weezy vowed to never return to the Big Apple. But judging by the diamond-studded grin he flashed throughout the night as the crowd chanted "Weezy's Home," it's a safe assumption that the MC was happy to be back in New York.

"New York always showed us love," said Birdman, sitting in his tour bus following the show. "It was just unfortunate he had to come out here and do time. But the people always showed us mad love. New York is probably one of our biggest markets. They always supported us, and we always showed them love."

Jones to appear on the ‘Tonight Show’ on Thursday night

Jon Jones' latest stop on the victory tour is a trip out to Los Angeles and Jay Leno's "Tonight Show." He will appear on the famous late night show on Thursday evening at 11:35 ET/PT to talk about winning the UFC light heavyweight belt. The split in his training camp with former friend and training partner Rashad Evans will likely be discussed.

Jones is far from the first fighter to make it onto Leno's stage. Tito Ortiz, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Chuck Liddell have all appeared on the Leno show. But even putting Jones in that company is impressive. All three men have multiple title defenses, movie roles and magazine covers. Now, Jones will join them down that road of stardom that transcends MMA.

'Sucker Punch' Secrets Revealed!

MTV News spoke with filmmaker Zack Snyder and the cast about the making of the fantastical battle movie.
By Kara Warner

At long last, Zack Snyder's mysterious, "Alice in Wonderland With Machine Guns" film "Sucker Punch" has arrived in theaters. MTV News has been on the case since its humble beginnings, bringing you all the news, videos, scoops and interviews ... in a nutshell, everything you need to know.

To celebrate the film's opening day, we present a few more fun facts about the film that we learned directly from the film's director/writer Zack Snyder and the cast.

1. Snyder's original plan for the movie was to build it around a big musical number.
"I had this idea that it'd be cool if we used the musical number for the spine of the movie or the spine of the action sequence," Snyder told MTV News. "And then getting in and out of it would be like, the music would start and that would draw us in. That would be the sort of mechanism for the fantasy to begin, and when the music ended, that would be the mechanism for it ending. And that was sort of how it started."

2. Inspiration for the look of the film came from the adult fantasy magazine Heavy Metal.
"I still read it, actually," Snyder said. "It's got little short stories in it and they're illustrated. And so it's like a comic strip that has more sex and violence than you would get from a normal comic book," Snyder said, adding that he started reading the magazine in his youth. "I think it influenced this movie in a pretty big way."

3. For the high-action "train sequence," Snyder used hundreds of shots to look like one, which took seven days to shoot.
"[The train sequence] is a sequence that's broken up into maybe 120 shots that look like one shot," Snyder explained. "So you just kind of have to know where the cameras are going and knowing where it came from, and put these little camera moves in and all these shifts that have to happen. ... You shoot one angle and then you shoot the other angle and then it's going to be stitched with the CG section. So you have to know what you're capable of," he said. "How far you can push the CG stitch so it doesn't break the shot. There's a whole bunch of things like that."

4. Everyone in the cast is wearing a ton of makeup.
Even for Oscar Isaac, who plays creepy institution overlord Blue Jones and has the privilege of being one of the only men in the cast, the makeup process was extensive.

"I remember they would spray-tan me and then put an extra coat of shine on it," he recalled. "Then blush and then tons of eyeliner. My hair was basically glued tight to my head."

But compared to what the ladies endured, Isaac's process wasn't that bad. Carla Gugino told us the filmmakers wanted the makeup to make a statement, and that she spent at least two hours in the makeup chair every morning.

"We definitely had so much fun," Gugino said. "Rosalina [Da Silva] designed the look of the film makeup-wise. And we did 'Watchmen' together as well," she explained. "She's amazing. But there was a point when she said, 'Carla, guess how many sets of lashes you have on your eyes?' and I was like, 'Including my real ones?' and she was like, 'Yes.' And we realized that it was four."

5. Snyder had to cut back on the violence in the movie, particularly a few scenes that involve implied or attempted rape.
"Those [scenes] of course got trimmed away," he said. "It's really delicate because even that subject matter, you have the harder version that is sometimes better because it actually makes the point a little bit more directly. The PG-13 version was difficult for me," he revealed. "I would say that the very things that they didn't like were the very things that you needed to see in order for you to understand the content of the scene. You know, to know how to feel about it, because otherwise you're sort of left in this weird middle ground," he said. "So it's difficult. It's tricky."

Snyder went on to explain why the sexual violence and lobotomy images were necessary to include in the film, juxtaposed with the idea of women not being victims and being able to defend themselves.

"For me it was all about having incredible threat in that world. Like, what is the most dangerous thing? What is the worst possible thing, and to me being lobotomized and then raped is probably the worst possible thing," he explained. "I like the idea that the verdict or the ... like if someone were to make a sacrifice, and you have two alternatives and one is just go back to jail. OK. You know, I get that. And one is you know, be lobotomized and then possibly raped for the rest of your zombified life. You know, you really need to think about that. You're giving up a lot, I guess, is my point."

Charlie Sheen's Tour Is Not Sold Out

Charlie Sheen's Tour Is Not Sold Out

Is Charlie Sheen's "winning" streak coming to a quick end? Weeks ago, the wacky actor boasted that tickets to his first appearance on his comedy tour, "Violent Torpedo of Truth," had sold out rapidly. But now Ticketmaster is singing a different tune.

According to EW.com, there are plenty of seats still available for Sheen's Detroit shows through the box office, as well as online ticket exchange sites like Stubhub. Seats for Sheen's appearance are even going for less than face value in some cases, and there are reportedly more than 1,250 seats still available in the 5,000-seat venue.

"(The high resell percentage) is certainly more than we typically see," says Joellen Ferrer, public relations manager for Stubhub. "It seems like there were some buyers who were overly optimistic about the market for Sheen tickets; the supply has definitely outpaced demand."

Though some of of Sheen's future shows are indeed sold out for real (like his Radio City Hall appearance), insiders say that bad reviews may prevent any seats that remain for other shows from being sold.

"When you get down to a week or less before an event, you generally see a price drop, and that’s what you’re seeing here,” says Vaccaro. "If the first reviews are poor and bad word of mouth spreads, you could see demand dwindle down to nothing, with tickets going for a fraction of their face value."

On Monday Sheen accused ex-wife Denise Richards of dognapping their pug, which she took back from her ex after he neglected to take care of the pet.

"We must bombard with Warlock Napalm, that traitor and loser whore #DUH-neese POOR-ARD," he twittered. "A VILE KIDNAPPER AND NOW DOG THIEF. HATE."

Perhaps the public is finally getting tired of Charlie's craziness?

Wiz Khalifa Wants To Rap Over 'Really Tight' Mumford & Sons Song

'Roll Up' MC tells MTV News he's a fan of the rock quartet during Spring Break in Las Vegas.

Spring Break is a chance for willing college kids to try something new. So in the spirit of the yearly tradition, Wiz Khalifa — one of the performers at MTV's Spring Break 2011, along with Snoop Dogg, Pitbull and Lupe Fiasco — spoke to MTV News about experimenting with rhyming.

We asked the "Black and Yellow" star whose music he would pick if he could rap over any other artist's song.

"Mumford & Sons, they got a really tight song that I wanna rap over," Wiz said. "That I would totally rap over if I had the chance to 'cause usually, when I see the video or hear the song, I get it real quick but now I have to ask again. I forgot. [Editor's note: Wiz is likely referring either to M&S singles "Little Lion Man" or "The Cave."] "They're tight and really musical," he said about the West London quartet. "I like the instruments they use, like bongos. It's tight and acceptable."

Although Wiz took to the Las Vegas stage joined by his DJ, the Pittsburgh rapper said he also had a band in mind if he needed a crew to back him: the Disco Biscuits.

"They're hard," he explained. "It's just sound-y. When you get that vibe and that music, it just feels good and makes you feel a certain way when you hear it."

Khalifa, an MTV News 11 for '11 pick, is set to celebrate his major-label debut on Tuesday, when Rolling Papers arrives in stores and at online retailers.

"We got a couple of surprises along the way to keep people interested," he told MTV News last month. "But really, other than that, the album is done. We're really excited. Everyone is excited. [Warner Music Group executive] Lyor [Cohen] came through to a session. I got so much support from the single and going into the album. So when we do drop it, I think we'll get that response that everyone was expecting."

Catch Wiz performing in Las Vegas during MTV's Spring Break on Monday night (March 28) on MTV at 9:50 p.m. ET.

Ke$ha's 'Blow' Director Addresses Lady Gaga 'Unicorn' Flap

Unicorn cameos in 'Born This Way' and 'Blow' videos is 'just weird coincidence,' Chris Marrs Piliero tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

The brand-new videos for Ke$ha's "Blow" and Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" couldn't be more different. But fans on the Web have been comparing the clips, thanks to a special cameo the two videos have in common. With unicorns appearing in both "Blow" and "BTW," some Gaga fans are accusing the K-Dollar of stealing from their Mother Monster.

But MTV News spoke to "Blow" director Chris Marrs Piliero, who explained that it's pure coincidence his video and the Nick Knight-directed video both feature unicorns.

"It's very odd. It's one of those weird things, and I think a lot of people on the Internet don't grasp the sense of time [that goes into making videos]. Some Gaga fans, they don't realize that just because it was announced there might be a unicorn [in Gaga's video], it's like, we didn't film the video after that announcement," he said.

"It's like [the movies] 'Dante's Peak' and 'Volcano' and then there was 'Armageddon' and 'Deep Impact.' I don't know, I know when things like that happen when I was a part of the audience, I was like, 'That's weird and fishy,' but now being on the other side, it's just weird coincidences," he explained. "What are the odds of that?"

In fact, Piliero had a gut feeling that he should use unicorns many, many moons ago and he thought Ke$ha was the right artist to join with the mythological creatures onscreen.

"Ke$ha was looking to make kind of something different, a video that was cool and random, and I had this idea running in my head with just the idea of unicorns," he recalled. "If I massacred unicorns, they could bleed rainbows. I'm a fan of violence and I'm always trying to find a way to make it OK."

The rainbow-spewing unicorns weren't the only cameo that Piliero hoped to nab. He also wanted "Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek to appear in the clip. "He's such an awesome guy. He was down for it," he said. "He had seen the Black Keys video [I shot] and he was stoked on the idea. It was so much fun. He and Ke$ha kind of went for all the craziness. I think he has a fantastic comic side. He's good at being naturally funny. It's about the delivery."

Ke$ha, of course, was onboard for all the zaniness. "Before we started filming, we had quite a few talks. She was adamant you can't back away from the crazy; everything about the idea she loved and she enforced the fact that she wanted to embrace every aspect of it and really go for it," he recalled. "On set, she was having fun. She was like, 'I want to lick a unicorn.' It was rad working with her because there definitely wasn't a sense of her feeling awkward about stuff or detached; no ego. It felt like we had worked together before."

Which video do you prefer: "Blow" or "Born This Way"? Tell us in the comments!

Ke$ha Postpones Japan Tour Dates

Ne-Yo, Cyndi Lauper continue to perform in the country following earthquake.

As the people of Japan continue to struggle with recovering from the nation's devastating earthquake and tsunami, some artists are being forced to cancel their tour dates in the nation. Ke$ha released a statement on Monday announcing that she would have to postpone her upcoming dates in Japan.

"My heart is with Japan right now through this disaster and these hardships," the singer wrote on her website. "I genuinely don't think right now would be appropriate timing for me to perform in Japan given the content and the spirit of my show, which is all about feeling exuberant, rowdy, and wild. ... I plan to bring my party there and to that part of the world when we are all ready to dance and Get $leazy together again. In the meantime I am going to do everything I can to help relief efforts and I encourage everyone in the world to do the same."

In the meantime, Ke$ha has a string of North American dates kicking off on April 1 with a show in Clarion, Pennsylvania, and running through early May.

According to Billboard, the promoter of the scotched Japanese tour, Creativeman Productions, also announced that it would be canceling a pair of its annual spring festivals. The Springgroove, an R&B, soul and hip-hop festival scheduled for April 2 near Tokyo and April 3 in Osaka, would have featured Nelly and Flo Rida, among others. Also called off was then annual hardcore Punkspring festival on April 1 and 2 in Osaka and Nagoya with headliners Good Charlotte and Hoobastank.

Ne-Yo continued with his planned dates in Japan over the weekend, performing a show in Nagoya on Friday and launching a charity initiative to help the people of the country. Called "Spread Love Through Music," the show included donation boxes at the concert to help those in need and the sale of a special wristband with proceeds going to earthquake relief. He plans to do the same during his shows on Tuesday (March 22) in Yokohama and Thursday in Tokyo. "You can absolutely spread love through music, and I think that's what's absolutely called for in this time of crisis," he said in a video on his website.

Also currently touring Japan is Cyndi Lauper, who is slated to play a show in Osaka on Tuesday and was in the country promoting her Memphis Blues album when the quake hit on March 11. She's been tweeting about her experience all along, and on Monday, she wrote about the healing power of music in the shattered country.

"Miss my family but have my music family and the warmth of the peeps I sing to. Tonight I will lose myself in the music and the rhythm," she wrote. Like Ne-Yo, she is asking fans to donate cash at the shows to earthquake relief and is donating all royalties from sales of her Blues album in Japan to the Japanese Red Cross.

'Captain America' Trailer: Five Cool Moments

Take a closer look at the super-soldier as we break down the upcoming action movie's first full trailer.
By Eric Ditzian

Chris Evans and cast in the "Captain America: The First Avenger" trailer
Photo: Marvel

Before becoming the engineered superhero called Captain America, Steve Rogers attempts to join the Army five times in five cities, only to be rejected for being a pipsqueak with a ton of heart but not nearly big enough biceps. In a similar series of false starts, we've been treated to a slew of teasers for "Captain America: The First Avenger," from a 30-second Super Bowl spot to a bunch of seconds-long video snippets parceled out over the last few days.

Now, finally, we're getting a shot of cinematic super-serum with the Marvel adaptation's first full trailer. Here are our picks for the five coolest moments:

The Shield ... Kinda
Here we see Rogers (Chris Evans) in pre-conversion twerp mode. Chased into an alley, he attempts to defend himself with a trashcan lid — a none-too-subtle nod to the red-white-and-blue shield he'll soon wield as the Captain. Sure, he's a scrawny fellow, but he's brave. And as Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci) will tell Steve before transforming him into a superhero, "A weak man knows the value of strength, knows the value of power." In terms of historical context, this shot also gives us a glimpse of around when the story begins. A poster in the alley shows the date: May 29, 1943.

Meet Your Super-Serum
So it's that goopy blue stuff that transforms Rogers into a super-solider. We see Erskine in the laboratory, as well as Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), who just so happens to be the father of a certain iron-suited hero played in other Marvel movies by Robert Downey Jr. The serum doesn't look that pleasant going in, but what a difference it makes: Rogers goes from zero to world-saving hero.

Captain Action
Listen, it's hard out there for a super-solider. Even when an Army colonel (Tommy Lee Jones) is driving at top speed in a convertible and the Captain looks like he's about to jump out and whup some Nazi butt, he pauses for a little smooch from Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Pimp!

Army of the Damned
Check them out in all their blue-glowing glory: the HYDRA army controlled by Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler's head honcho of weaponry and general evilness. It's these soldiers who will face off against the Captain and his crew with the fate of the world in the balance.

The Boys
We'd sleep easier knowing this collection of dudes — Captain America and the much-hyped Howling Commandos — is protecting the nation. In addition to the Captain, you've got sidekick Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), Union Jack (JJ Field) and Dum Dum Dungan (Neal McDonough). That's a hero shot if we've ever seen one. "It's an amazing costume," Evans told us last year of his look. "Given the fact that his costume is red, white and blue, and it's tight, and it could be kind of flash and over the top — and given the fact that the movie takes place in the '40s and '50s — they've done a really good job of making it look really cool."

What were your favorite moments? Share them in the comments below!
