Taylor Swift may want to go "Back to December," but November has been kind to the singer. Not only has her LP Speak Now stayed at the top of the Billboard albums chart, but on Tuesday night the 20-year-old country-pop chanteuse was honored with the country songwriter of the year prize at the BMI Awards in Nashville.
Swift became the youngest recipient of the prize, telling the crowd, "It's been a really emotional week for me." And while this week has been filled with highs, it has also had its share of lows as she attended the funeral of a friend on Monday. She added, "He was 21, and I used to play my songs for him first."
Swift, who wore a slate-gray minidress to the event, won the award for "Fifteen," ''White Horse," ''You Belong to Me" and the Kellie Pickler track "Best Days of Your Life," on which she also sings backup.
On Tuesday night, while at the show, the singer tweeted about being there, writing, "At the BMI awards. It's got a red theme. They have hot tamales in the centerpiece at the table. Is it bad that I'm eating them? Classy."
Swift shows no signs of slowing down this week. She will perform at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night (November 10), where she is nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year. She will reportedly sing her ballad "Back to December," off her chart-topping album Speak Now. "It's a very emotional performance," a source said of the rumored performance. "Just her sitting at the piano, strings playing. It'll definitely be a 'moment' in the show."
