Former rap star MC Hammer is making the transition to MMA manager and apparel sales, with his new line Alchemist. Apparently, music is still in his blood and so is battling other rap stars. Hammer just posted this video featuring MMA fighters Brendan Schaub, Eliot Marshall and Nate Marquardt and trainer Trevor Wittman. It calls out current rap giant Jay-Z. From the New York Daily News:
The video for "Better Run Run," released Monday, accuses Jay-Z of being an impostor and stealing Hammer's "swagger."
The video by the "U Can't Touch This" rapper also shows a man impersonating Jay-Z -- in a white T-shirt and a Yankees cap -- running from a Devil-like figure.
"Better run, run" is in response to Jay-Z's recents comments in a Kayne West song that poked fun at Hammer for blowing his massive fortune.
"And Hammer went broke so you know I'm more focused/I lost 30 mil so I spent another 30/'Cause unlike Hammer 30 million can't hurt me."
In the mid-'90s, Hammer was worth an estimated $33 million but squandered most of it through extravagant spending and bad investments.
Hammer is outkicking the coverage on this one. Jay-Z is pulling in $30 million-plus each year. Hammer is trying to rebuild his nest egg. The MMA management company and clothing line was launched earlier this year. He's working with fighters like Schaub, Marquardt, Stefan Struve, Paulo Filho, Vladimir Matyushenko and Tim Kennedy.
Jay-Z must be quaking in his boots. There's nothing scarier than watching Hammer work the mits and his "gansta" buddy Marquardt looking all mean.
