Quentin Tarantino Sues Alan Ball Screaming Birds

Quentin Tarantino Sues Alan Ball Screaming Birds

If Quentin Tarantino has any hope of winning another Academy Award, he's gotta have some peace and quiet.

As an Academy Award winner himself, his neighbor Alan Ball should know that, which is why Tarantino has filed a lawsuit in a Los Angeles court demanding that Ball keep quiet his exotic birds which "emit blood-curdling screams at random intervals for seven to eight hours each day."

The tropical macaws' "obnoxious pterodactyl-like screams" are startling and disruptive, charges Tarantino, the writer and director of such acclaimed films as Pulp Fiction (best original screenplay winner), Reservoir Dogs, the Kill Bill movies and Inglourious Basterds.

The trouble started in 2009 when Ball, who won the screenwriting Oscar for American Beauty and created the HBO series True Blood and Six Feet Under, installed an "exotic bird menagerie" on his L.A. property, which is directly below Tarantino's home.

Since then, the birds have become a nuisance with their "blood-curdling" screams and by 2010 their "ear-splitting shrieks and screams," became intolerable, Tarantino says.

He tried resolving the dispute amicably, and Ball and his partner initially said they would look into building an outdoor soundproof structure for the feathered loudmouths but would keep them indoors in the meantime, the suit says.

The noise level did improve for a short time but then Ball started bringing the birds outside again and the cacophony resumed, Tarantino says. Once the aviary was built, the birds were placed there for several hours a day but instead of eliminating the din, the "the noise is in fact worse," the lawsuit claims.

Let's hope they come to a quick resolution, put aside their differences and collaborate on what is sure to be another award-winning movie. The Birds is already taken, but available titles include, Kill Bird, (Put the Birds) Six Feet Under (Or Else) and Poulet Friction.
