Lady Gaga's "Born This Way": Sky-High First-Week Sales!

Inching closer to breaking a 10-year album sales record, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" is projected to sell more than 1 million copies by the end of its first week.

Earning an initial push from Amazon.com, who sold the record for just 99 cents for the first two days, the Mother Monster's latest effort is now on track to hit the 1.15 million mark in its first seven days, according to Billboard.

That number would allow the 25-year-old pop sensation to push past Taylor Swift's "Speak Now," which moved 1,047,000 copies its first week.

If "Born This Way" captures 1.15 or higher as it's predicted to, it would give Gaga the biggest opening since the 2001 debut of 'NSYNC's "Celebrity."

Lil Wayne's 'How To Love' Video Will 'Shock You,' Producer Says

Detail says Wayne 'wrote every scene' for Tha Carter IV single's clip.

Lil Wayne shocked fans when he took to singing over an acoustic guitar on his new Tha Carter IV single "How to Love," and it seems Weezy has more surprises in store. According to the song's producer, Detail, the single's video also will defy expectations.

During a studio visit, the Young Money CEO revealed to Detail a treatment that he had written for the clip. "Wayne wrote every scene: He told me scene by scene by scene," the producer said to MTV News. "It's gonna have a big, big, big effect, and it's going to shock you because the perspective you might look at it as. He kinda tapped into a different perspective of the song and gave a different enlightenment on how you can consider a girl and how they're in a forever pursuit trying to find love."

Detail didn't want to give too much away, but was so excited by Wayne's treatment that he is already looking forward to crossing rap's boundaries and attending some very different events. "After he showed me the video concept, it's like, 'Yo, dude, we're gonna be at the Country Awards with this record,' " Detail said, laughing. "We gonna be sitting next to Taylor Swift."

Released last week, "How to Love" is on the top 10 iTunes singles chart. The single's cover art shows Wayne with his back to the camera and his arms spread open.

In an exclusive interview with MTV News' Sway Calloway, Wayne said his new single gives him "goose bumps" and that he has "never had a single like it."

Mary Margaret's First Flight

So I'm at O'Hare right now getting ready to fly back to New York with my babies. Bev and Mary Margaret are in one bag together.

Earlier there was some cuddling, but now I hear a bit of growling. Mary Margaret has a tendency to terrorize poor Beverly...

The big thing I'm afraid of, however, isn't the growling—it's that Mary Margaret will poop in her bag. If she does poop, I've decided that I'm going to poop too, because me shitting myself will totally trump her shitting herself, right?

That's gross... girls shouldn't talk about poop.

Poop, poop, poop.

Anywho... I'll check in later to tell you how it goes. The flight is delayed right now, which just makes the possibility of pooping more likely. For me and her.

(I know, I know... girls shouldn't talk about poop.)

Browne scores highlight-reel KO at UFC 130

Travis Browne easily won the battle of super tall heavyweights, knocking out Stefan Struve at 4:11 in the first round at UFC 130 on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Both fighters wanted to show off their kicks early in the round, as they exchanged, sometimes simultaneously, leg kick after leg kick. Struve was in control for much of the round, even slapping on a few submission attempts on Browne. But after Brown popped out of a choke and the fight returned to their feet, he took advantage of the standing position. In the final minute of the round, Browne threw a perfect Superman punch. Struve's head snapped back, and his body caught air before he hit the ground.

"That's what we train every day. That's pretty!" Brown said, while watching the knockout replay.

The knockout keeps Browne's undefeated record intact, as he now is 11-0-1, while Struve falls to 21-5.

Rampage’s UFC 130 blog: Defending the takedown and putting on an exciting show

Quinton "Rampage" Jackson is back and he's giving Yahoo! Sports' readers an inside look into the lead-up to his UFC 130 fight against Matt Hamill approaches.

Check out the Yahoo! Sports' exclusive blog here. Rampage talks about what he expects from Hamill:

So, Hamill has stood and traded with some guys in his career, but I am sure he knows it is bad for his health if he does that next week! For real! I've trained for all areas ? but I just want it to be exciting. I think he will try and take me down and I'm ready for him to avoid striking with me at all costs.

It sounds like Jackson has no plans of piling up points on his way to a decision victory:

I'm under no pressure to get a knockout, but I always try for the knockout. I have kept that mentality from PRIDE, where it was more important to have a great fight than win or lose. I would never criticize any fighter but at the end of the day, this is entertainment, and I want to give the fans what they paying their money for. This is the career I chose ? fighting ? and so let's fight.

We're guessing arm-wrestling Travis Pastrana was not part of Jackson's training camp preparation for Hamill's wrestling ability.

Jackson and Pastrana clashed at the press conference in Los Angeles to announce the partnership between the action sports star and Waltrip Racing on the 2011 NASCAR Nationwide Tour.

‘Rampage’ Jackson doesn’t need to fight anymore, he’s the official BS detector

Some have questioned Quinton Jackson's level of desire to fight Matt Hamill this weekend. Now we know what's been clouding his mind. In this hilarious Boost Mobile commercial, "Rampage" is serving as official bull[expletive] detector.

Watch him go after a banker, a weatherman and a Cris Angel look-a-like.

Rampage got everyone worked up with a recent quote about the Hamill fight.

"If they get to know me, I'm not really excited about anybody I fight. It's my job to me; it's my career. I don't get excited no more," Jackson said. "I've got almost 40 fights. I don't get excited about anybody I fight. I just go in and do it."

When pressed on the topic, Jackson explained:

"I think Matt made a mistake when he actually said he's going to break my will, and that I'm going to overlook him. That actually lit a fire up under my ass, and actually made me train a little bit harder just so I could break his will. So I could make sure I outclass him," said Jackson.

What you need to know from this week on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’

Last week, Chris Cope and Ramsey Nijem punched their tickets to the semifinals. Two more fights are on the docket for tonight, as well as the semifinals match-ups. Who will win the quarterfinals? What fighter crosses the line? What is Ramsey doing in that picture? Read on for spoilers and a recap.

Nice guy of the week: Chuck O'Neil plans to give half of his win bonus to Charlie Rader, who needs money to deal with legal problems surrounding his kid. He hasn't seen his son in more than a year. Rader said that he isn't going to take the cash, but O'Neil isn't taking no for an answer.

Rematch of the week: Davis beat O'Neil in their first bout, so they are fighting with good knowledge of each other.

Quarterfinal: Zach Davis (Team dos Santos) vs. Chuck O'Neil (Team Lesnar)

Round one: The two started by throwing every strike in the book at each other until Davis dives in for a takedown attempt. O'Neil defends it, while Davis throws knee after knee. Davis tries to drop to a single leg to get O'Neil to the ground, but O'Neil lands strike after strike on Davis' face that opens a cut under Davis' eye. O'Neil takes over in the final minute, aggressively landing punch after punch while Davis showed little defense. As the round ended, Davis' face was swollen and bleeding, and O'Neil looked fresh and ready for more.

Round two: O'Neil knocks Davis to the ground with a quick leg kick, but as soon as he's in Davis' guard, Lesnar order O'Neil to stand up. Back on their feet, Davis still seems desperate to bring the fight to the ground. No matter what he does, he can't get the fight to the ground. After referee Steve Mazzagatti breaks the two apart, O'Neil stays aggressive. Davis tries another takedown attempt that makes Lesnar say, "That's weak!" For once, I agree with Brock.

O'Neil takes the fight in two rounds, and thoroughly impressed Dana White.

More bad news of the day: The loss was only the first blow to Davis. He tore the retinas in both of his eyes, and now is told that he can't ever fight again. He is clearly heartbroken, mentioning that his career has to end just when it was getting good.

Quarterfinal: Ryan McGillivray (Team dos Santos) vs. Tony Ferguson (Team Lesnar)

Round one: Early in the round, Ferguson caught McGillivray with a uppercut and then added a straight right. McGillivray staggered backwards, and then fell to the ground. Ferguson jumped on top quickly, ending the fight and earning himself another $5,000 bonus for a stoppage.

With that, Lesnar has three semifinalists and dos Santos has one. The semifinal match-ups are:

Ramsey Nijem vs. Chris Cope

Chuck O'Neil vs. Tony Ferguson

The fights will air next Wednesday, and decide who will fight in the finale on June 4.

Hijinks of the week: With the quarterfinals finished, the fighters decide to celebrate. That involves tequila, Ramsey stripping on the pool table, and throwing water.

Beyonce 'Nailed It' In 'Girls' Video, Choreographer Says

'It was really important to her to find a world that was unique to her look,' Frank Gatson Jr. of desert location.

Beyoncé enlisted lots of wild animals, some stunning couture and 242 dancers for her just-released "Run the World (Girls)" video. The moves reflect several genres of dance, from jazz, street, hip-hop to African, and her choreographer tells MTV News that was all part of the plan.

"We prepared a lot for it. We had seen something on YouTube; we had seen these three guys from Africa, this Mozambique African dance troupe ... we were like, 'Wow, this is an amazing movement,' " B's longtime choreographer, Frank Gatson Jr., told us about the Francis Lawrence-directed video. "And that movement has always been in the back of our head for the last year. From there, we talked about a lot of concepts."

The concept the team ended up settling on was a desert landscape ruled by two forces: Beyoncé and her supermodel minions and a very unwelcoming opposing army. "The environment, I have to give her and Francis that credit. She really challenged Francis on finding a world that's unique to her. We could have easily done it in downtown L.A. We could have easily done it in downtown New York, but it was really important to her to find a world that was unique to her look and image to her new project," he explained of the video for the lead single off her June release, 4.

While Beyoncé is the pop star, Gatson is quick to give credit to all of the dancers in the clip, including some that the team enlisted from Africa. "We say, 'Share the light, you sparkle brighter,' and we share our light with a lot of new, creative people. I feel like we really nailed it and, again, my hats off to the Tofo Tofo guys [from Africa], 'cause none of us could imitate that," he said. "We had to bring them around to learn that [move], which is really, really interesting. They had such a great vocabulary of movement."

Those two dancers not only helped shape the moves in the video, but also moved Beyoncé. "That was probably one of the most beautiful experiences for Beyoncé. They were so humbled," he said. "It was hard finding them. They were really in a remote area; we had to get the embassy people involved. That was a process that took about two months or more. Beyoncé really loved them and I'm pretty sure we'll see them again. It was magical."

What do you think of the moves in the "Run the World (Girls)" video? Tell us in the comments!

Jennifer Lawrence Talks Training To Play Katniss Everdeen In 'Hunger Games'

'I've done archery for about six weeks, rock climbing, tree climbing and combat and running and vaulting,' star tells MTV News.

For all the "The Hunger Games" fans out there — and we're talking about those who've been onboard since reading (and likely becoming obsessed with) author Suzanne Collins' spellbinding dystopian trilogy — the news surrounding Lionsgate's big-screen adaptation has been almost as intriguing as the books themselves.

MTV News has been hot on the trail of as many details we can muster, and we were lucky enough to chat recently with the young woman who will be Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence, about landing the coveted role.

"I was a huge fan of the books before I even really knew about the movies," Lawrence said. "I met with [director] Gary Ross, and we had a very long, nice meeting before the audition," she explained. "And then by the time the audition came around, we were familiar with each other."

Lawrence also spoke about the intense amount of training she's undergone to prepare for Katniss' intense action sequences.

"It's lots of training, but the training is actually really fun," she revealed. "I've done archery for about six weeks, rock climbing, tree climbing and combat and running and vaulting," she said. "Also yoga and things like that to stay cat-like."

The 20-year-old has also addressed the group of folks who took to the Internet to express their less-than-pleased opinions about Lawrence's casting as Katniss.

"I wasn't aware that everybody was so upset until I after I got my hair dyed, and people were like, 'Oh my gosh, blond hair can turn brown. Wow. It's a miracle,' " she joked. "So now is the only time that I'm being told that people hated me at first."

How Much Money Did Scotty and Lauren Make from 'American Idol'?

How Much Money Did Scotty and Lauren Make from 'American Idol'?

American Idol should be the start of a promising career for newly minted winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina. But it's also a payday in itself. So how much dough, exactly, have season 10's top two raked in thanks to their Idol stint?

As we know, the winner of the competition -- that would be McCreery, 17 -- gets the big, juicy recording contract. According to E! Online, that contract is worth $250,000. However, don't cry too much for 16-year-old Lauren! She's taking home $87,500 for her participation. Plus, when she actually records an album, that five-figure sum should jump up to the high six-figure range, probaly around $175,000.

As E! points out, this means that second-place Idol winner Alaina is getting a better contract than the first-place winner of NBC's The Voice, who is promised a $100,000 recording deal. (Of course, that winner also gets a personal celebrity advocate in the mentor they've chosen; we bet a few lunch dates with Christina Aguilera or Cee Lo Green could really boost an upstart's career.) And then there's the super-lucky winner of Fox's The X Factor, who will bring home the biggest prize in reality TV history: a $5 million record deal.

In case you were wondering, Lauren and Scott will not be spending their shared winnings on a big American Idol wedding. Alaina cleared up rumors of a budding romance during a radio interview on Thursday morning.

"No, we're not (dating)," said Alaina. "I was kidding about it last night a lot, but we're just friends."

As for the kisses she planted on "Scotty the Body," that was "just so happy and in the moment" that she got carried away. Too bad -- we think Steven Tyler would make a fabulous maid of honor.

So a Lady and Her Monkey Walk Into a Petsmart...

I went to Petsmart yesterday to get some things for little Mary Margaret, and while I was pulling into the parking lot, I passed a lady getting out of her car with a monkey on her shoulders.

Of course I came to a screeching halt because there was a lady getting our of her car WITH A MONKEY ON HER SHOULDERS, and that's just something you don't see every day.

I proceeded to take a photo...

...but then thought it would be better to capture the craziness on video, so here it is:

Lady and Her Monkey Go to Petsmart from Karyn Bosnak on Vimeo.

When I told Mark about the lady and her monkey and showed him my movie, he said, "You really are crazy." I was like, "I'm crazy? THE MONKEY WAS WEARING A DIAPER AND PEARLS."

I mean, for real, let's put this into perspective.

Anywho, here's another photo of the lady and her monkey at the checkout counter:

I realize I now have one cat and two dogs, but at least I don't walk around with a monkey on my shoulders. (Yet.)

Eating baby food, abstinence and kicking butt, all part of what makes up phenom Michael McDonald

A 20-year-old shouldn't be able to walk into the UFC and compete, but that's exactly what Michael McDonald is doing. A few seconds of watching him fight and you understand why he's so advanced for his age. Speaking to him gives you an even better indicator.

With the help of RawVegas.tv, we hunted down McDonald in Las Vegas. He's a very poised, grounded kid. McDonald is spiritual and admitted that he doesn't drink or party, and he's abstinent.

McDonald faces UFC newcomer Chris Cariaso on the undercard of UFC 130. The fighters have a history with Cariaso taking out a McDonald teammate in a past fight. It was a frustrating night for McDonald who worked the corner. He wants to exact a bit of revenge for his buddy. McDonald is a huge minus-300 favorite over Cariaso.

Audrina Patridge, Ke$ha, Adam Lambert Share Prom Memories

'Me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m.,' Ke$ha tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

It's prom season, and that means high schoolers across this great land will be renting tuxes, buying fancy dresses and negotiating the details of their curfews with parents. So, before you take your pictures and get in your limos, we asked some Hollywood A-listers to recall their fondest prom memories.

"I had a great prom," Ne-Yo told MTV News. "I didn't get to go with who I wanted to go with. I got my second choice, but my second choice turned out to be the one I was supposed to be there with, so it turned out good."

Ke$ha, never one to say no to a party, had the best night of all her friends. "I went to prom with my gay best friend, and let me tell you, I had way more fun than anybody else at a prom with their boyfriends," she recalled. "Everybody else was, like, crying and drama and breaking up, and me and my gay best friend just danced until 8 a.m."

"Hellcats" star Aly Michalka doesn't have a favorite prom memory — because she never went to prom. "I was homeschooled, so I don't even think we had a fake prom," she lamented. "Like, maybe we had a home-school prom and I wasn't invited?"

While everything always seems to be in peril on "The Vampire Diaries," star Nina Dobrev had a less tumultuous night: "Having everyone get together and such a final celebration [is what I remember]."

Romeo went big for his prom. "My senior prom, I remember I pulled up in my red Ferrari. I was feeling like James Bond," he said. "And it was one of the best nights of my life."

"My favorite prom memory was probably going shopping for a dress, and our boyfriends at the time dressed up as 'Dumb & Dumber,' " Audrina Patridge laughed. "And so we were like, 'We can't dress up dorky ... we have to look good.' "

Roots drummer ?uestlove made a big decision on the night of his prom: "June 2, 1989, was my very last haircut; prom haircut, totally butchered my hair. He butchered my hair, and I vowed never again to ever get in a barber chair, so I grew that Afro on my prom night."

Adam Lambert said his prom date was a 10, so he definitely had a fun night. "I had a great prom. I had an awesome time," he said. "I went with one of my best friends in high school. Her name was Lauren, and she was really hot. She wore a really hot red dress, so I felt like I had arm candy."

As tragic as the shooting death of Mante "M-Bone" Talbert has been, his Cali Swag District bandmates continue to reflect on the positive when it comes to their fallen friend.

"We remember M-Bone's energy. We remember the fun M-Bone always wanted to have. We remember the spark that he lit onstage," C-Smoove told MTV News. "Onstage, Bone was like, 'Where is he goin'? Look at him, where'd he go?' He was everywhere. Sometimes he went so far, his mic started delayin'. We'd be like, 'Where's he at?' He'd be way at the top, at the nosebleed seats, dancin' with everybody."

On Friday (May 27), Cali Swag and M-Bone's family, friends and fans will bid farewell to the 22-year-old, who was murdered in a drive-by shooting on May 15. A public memorial service is set to take place at the Faithful Center in Inglewood, California. Inglewood Police Department's homicide division told MTV News that, while they have spoken to several witnesses, as of now they have made no arrests and have no suspects in the murder.

Despite the grim circumstances surrounding M-Bone's death, Cali Swag District's surviving members remain upbeat, laughing and even poking fun, choosing to remember the good times that they shared with the rapper/dancer. "We remember he couldn't pronounce a lot of words right," recalled Yung. "When he said 'phone,' he used to say 'foam.' Like, 'Pass me my foam.' "

CSD, who are most famous for their 2010 platinum single "Teach Me How to Dougie," remember Bone as a pretty calm guy ... that is, until it was time to dance, of course. "If you noticed, he's always quiet until it's his time to shine," Yung explained. "When it's time for anything that has to do with any craziness or hype-ness, that's his time to shine. If it's about dancin', that's when he go in. Other than that, he be chillin'."

M-Bone was so laidback when it came to talking with the press, in fact, that Yung said his crew should have changed his moniker in hindsight. "Chill Bone, that's what we should've called him when it comes to interview time, Chill Bone," he maintained.

The Inglewood Police Department is asking anyone with information surrounding the death of M-Bone to come forward and call its homicide division at (310) 412-5246 or its 24-hour anonymous hotline number, (888) 41 CRIME, or (888) 412-7463.

Do you have any condolence messages to send out to M-Bone's friends, family and bandmates? Share them in the comments.

Ke$ha Is Channeling 'Sexiness' Of '70s Rock For New Album

Glitter-heavy pop star tells MTV News she's going for 'balls-out, irreverent rock and roll.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias

Ke$ha
Photo: MTV News

Ke$ha's already got the face paint down pat, and, during recent live sets, she's even taken to guzzling blood out of a human heart, so it should come as no surprise that, on her upcoming album, the pop star is taking things back to the most theatrical era of rock: the prop-heavy, arena-spanning heyday of the 1970s.

Ke$h revealed her plans over the weekend in Los Angeles, on the red carpet of KIIS FM's annual Wango Tango concert, where she told MTV News that the follow-up to her breakout Animal album (and, we suppose, Cannibal too) would be heavy on hard riffs and light on pretty much everything else.

"The next album ... I've been working on writing on the road, but as far as a sound, I just know it's gonna be balls-out, irreverent rock and roll," she said. "I've been pretty much in this '70s rock and roll kick and I just want to capture some of the true essence of what rock and roll is, and that's just irreverence and sexiness and fun and not giving a f---, so we'll definitely put a bit of rock and roll in it."

So, does that mean that fans can expect the likes of Alice Cooper or Peter Frampton to show up on her new album? Perhaps. Because while Ke$ha's new album is still a ways off, she's already begun calling in favors, hoping to line up a killer collabo for the new disc.

"I'm trying, trust me," she laughed. "I really would love to connect with one of my idols, I mean, that's my dream. I'm working on it."

What do you think of Ke$ha going rock for her next album? Tell us in the comments!

Couture likes Hamill over ‘Rampage’ at UFC 130

Randy Couture is breaking down UFC fights for Affliction. In this video, he likes the stronger wrestler in the Quinton "Rampage" Jackson-Matt Hamill fight. Couture respects Rampage's punching power, but the ground work of Hamill is enough to make him pick the upset.

Jackson is coming off a narrow win over Lyoto Machida while Hamill is fresh off beating up Tito Ortiz. Everyone's old pal Tom Atencio "goes out on a limb" and chooses Jackson. Rampage is a minus-260 favorite.

UFC 130 betting odds (remaining fights posted later):

Quinton Jackson (-320) vs. Matt Hamill (+260)

Roy Nelson (-115) vs. Frank Mir (-115)

Brian Stann (-140) vs. Jorge Santiago (+110)

Thiago Alves (-220) vs. Rick Story (+180)

'Hangover Part II' Stars Promise 'A Lot More Comedy' In Sequel

'It was just utter excitement to play these characters again,' Bradley Cooper tells MTV News.

Given the incredible box-office success of 2009's mega-hit comedy "The Hangover," it seemed as though a future installment of the outlandish antics of "Wolf Pack" members Alan, Stu and Phil would be inevitable. Which brings us to "The Hangover Part II," which is opening in theaters this weekend.

MTV News caught up with the men behind the magic recently, actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who not only explained Cooper's head-shaving skills, but also revealed that the main castmembers were originally hesitant to venture into sequel territory.

"I think it was more excitement once we got the second script, which was really wonderful — actually stronger than the first one," Cooper said of getting the gang back together again. "It was just utter excitement to play these characters again and hopefully deliver a movie where fans will be excited to see what happened. We get to see where Alan lives, we get to see Stu progress to two years, Phil as well, so I think it was just exciting to hopefully provide a lot more comedy for people who liked the first one."

Helms has also said that there was some hesitancy to try and make lightning strike twice in a second film.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did, so we were all kind of blown away," Helms told us at a New York screening of the film. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started, and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script, and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

Regarding what audiences can expect from "Hangover Part II," Helms said to expect a bit more of the same.

"[It's] disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set, and you'll see all of that in the movie."

Check out everything we've got on "The Hangover Part II."

UFC 130 Live Blog: Kendall Grove vs. Tim Boetsch Updates

Filed under:

Kendall Grove faces Tim Boetsch at UFC 130.LAS VEGAS -- This is the UFC 130 live blog for Kendall Grove vs. Tim Boetsch, a middleweight bout on tonight's Spike TV portion of the preliminary card at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Grove (12-8, 1 NC, 7-5 UFC), the Season 3 middleweight winner of "The Ultimate Fighter," is coming off a December unanimous decision loss to former middleweight title challenger Demian Maia. The Hawaiian looks to avoid consecutive losses for the first time in more than three years. Boetsch (12-4, 3-3 UFC) is making his debut at middleweight. In his last fight, he was submitted by Phil Davis at UFC 123 in November, the first submission loss of his career.

The live blog is below.

Round 1: Boetsch closes the distance quickly, looking for a single-leg. Grove offers minimal resistance and soon ends up on his back. Boetsch tries a little ground-and-pound, but Grove gets back to his feet without absorbing much damage. Moments later Boetsch gets Grove down again and briefly works from side control before Grove replaces guard. Boetsch stands up out of Grove's guard, but this only succeeds in getting him kicked in the knee. Grove gets back to his feet and immediately ends up in the clinch. Boetsch keeps Grove pressed against the fence well into the final minute of the round. Grove breaks out, but with no time to work. MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9 for Boetsch.

Round 2: Grove tries to work the jab early on, but Boetsch does a good job of staying just out of range until it's time to close the distance and clinch. They're back up against the fence, but this time with Boetsch's back to the cage. Boetsch gets another takedown and works short elbows from side control. Grove defends well and doesn't take much damage before getting to his feet, but Boetsch puts him right back down and goes back to work. Again Grove rolls to his stomach, giving up his back just to get to his feet. Again it's successful, but Grove is starting to look a little weary in the clinch. Another takedown for Boetsch, and Grove is bloodied around the nose. Grove gets back up in the final seconds, but can't get close enough to Boetsch to unleash any offense. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Boetsch.

Round 3: Ten seconds in and Boetsch gets another takedown, but can't keep Grove down. Grove doesn't have much trouble getting back to his feet, but every time he does he ends up stuck in the clinch, where Boetsch is quick to put him down again. Grove gamely gets back to his feet again and stops a Boetsch takedown attempt cold. Signs of life for the Hawaiian. Boetsch is starting to look a little worn, but he gets another takedown moments later. Grove continues to battle back, but Boetsch's takedowns are relentless. He puts Grove on his back again, but Grove manages to get up and actually takes Grove down. Impressive, but it doesn't help him much here. He has to know he's done on the scorecards and in need of a finish. They end the round on ground, up against the fence, both looking exhausted. MMA Fighting scores it 10-9 for Boetsch.

Tim Boetsch def. Kendall Grove via unanimous decision.

Tony Ferguson explains offensive TUF outburst

On Wednesday night's episode of "The Ultimate Fighter," Tony Ferguson crossed the line when in a drunken argument with castmate Charlie Rader. It started with Rader pouring water on Ferguson's head, and with the amount of alcohol and testosterone flying around, things went too far. Ferguson brought up Rader's custody problems with his son, saying, "Hit me, don't hit your son."

Ferguson discussed the incident in his post on the SB Nation MMA blog:

Why did I bring up Charlie's son? I have no idea, but I have a guess. My birth father wasn't there for me growing up. Somehow Charlie's situation mixed in with my adrenaline from fighting and the booze all worked together to bring up my own issues. I learned a lot about myself watching that on tape and how I felt about certain things in my life. I was under a lot of pressure, I was trying to bottle up frustration and it didn't work. Well, it worked for a while, but ultimately did not.

I said some things I shouldn't have said. I was in a weird place. I was having crazy dreams in that house. The entire experience took me out of my own independence and removed all of my release valves.

I really regret saying what I said to Charlie and we've talked about it since the incident. I've spoke to Clay Harvison and Chuck, too. We are in a better place now than we were that night.

In the post, Ferguson mentions that they started drinking immediately after the fights, and adrenaline was still pumping through his veins.

Every TUF castmate I've spoken to has mentioned how weird the experience is. They're in a house for six weeks with no television, books, visitors or privacy. They get to train, drink, and entertain each other. This is not to excuse Ferguson's behavior, but just to point out that this isn't a normal situation, and abnormal behavior comes out of it.

Eight Ways of Looking at UFC 130

Filed under:

With UFC 130 just a day away, we look at what constitutes a main event, what becomes of former champs in both victory and defeat, and so much more.

I. "Rampage" Jackson could be auditioning for a title shot, not just fighting for one.
It's still unclear who will get the first crack at UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, but it's not hard to imagine that a Jackson victory on Saturday and an Evans loss (or even mediocre victory) in August could result in a Rampage-Bones title fight in the fall. But in order to effectively sell Jackson as legitimate competition for Jones, the UFC needs a convincing performance out of him here. If Jackson barely squeaks by Hamill (who Jones destroyed so thoroughly he ran out of legal strikes to hit him with) the way he barely squeaked by Machida, how many people are really going to be interested in seeing him fight the champ? Jackson can always sell a fight with his mouth - when he feels like it, anyway - but with three straight decisions under his belt, it'd be nice for him to show that he can still sell one with his fists, too.

II. Is Miguel Torres tired of fighting guys who come up to his nipples in the pre-fight staredown? At 5'9", Torres is practically the Stefan Struve of the bantamweight division. Demetrious Johnson will be the fourth straight opponent he's faced who hovers in the 5'3" range (Joe Benavidez is officially listed at 5'4", but then Shane Carwin is listed at 6'2", so go figure). Last time out Torres was content to hide behind his long jab and ride it all the way to the scorecards for an easy win. It wasn't his most popular effort, however, which makes you think that this time he may be tempted to mix it up more for the sake of the crowd. Against the speedy little "Mighty Mouse," that could be a dangerous, though perhaps necessary gamble. Torres has two straight wins under his belt. The third could be the charm, as long as it's not another snoozer.

III. With no more title fight at UFC 130, time for the UFC to make chicken salad out of chicken...well, you know.
Let's face it, fans are being asked to pay main event prices for a show that's essentially all undercard. Don't get me wrong, there are still some exciting scraps lined up for Saturday. Jackson-Hamill? Nelson-Mir? Those fights both feature former champs, and both have future implications...probably. At the same time, neither can be confused for a true, honest to goodness, call-in-sick-to-your-own-wedding type of main event. For some fans, that's also going to mean it's not worth the fifty bucks to stay home on a holiday weekend Saturday night and watch it. The UFC has to expect that, but injuries happen, so what are you going to do? The answer, I suspect, is take this one on the chin and move on to Vancouver. Sometimes you eat the chicken salad, and sometimes, well, the chicken salad eats you. I think that's how the saying goes, anyway.

IV. If Frank Mir can't beat Roy Nelson, then what? Mir is a former heavyweight champ who poses serious problems for most of the big men on the UFC's roster, but he's also a train that may be running out of track. He's been beaten by both Lesnar and Carwin. He holds victories over also-rans like Kongo and faded legends like Cro Cop and Big Nog. If he can't beat "Big Country," he can pretty much forget about a heavyweight title shot any time soon. Mir just turned 32, so it's not as if he can afford to wait around in the division until the wind shifts again. It's strange to think that the situation might be so dire when he's coming off a knockout victory, but then again, how bright can Mir's future in the UFC really be if he loses on Saturday?

V. Rick Story is about to take a serious leap up in competition.
The question is, is he ready for it? His five-fight win streak inside the Octagon is impressive, but who's the best welterweight he's beaten so far? Johny Hendricks? Brian Foster? No offense to those guys, but Alves is in an entirely different class. Two men can claim victories over "Pitbull" in the last half-decade: Georges St. Pierre and Jon Fitch. Alves is a solid little ball of muscle who's tough to takedown (unless you happen to be one of the two best takedown artists in all of MMA) and who can kick your legs into jelly if you stand with him. So how does Story - who is not a Fitch-level wrestler or an Alves-level kickboxer - win this fight? I have no idea, but it should be interesting to see what he comes up with.

VI. On paper, anyway, Matt Hamill is riding a five-fight win streak.
Of course, that includes the DQ win over Jones, and even the popcorn venders in the cheap seats could tell he wasn't going to be celebrating that one at the after-party. Still, imagine he wrestles his way to a decision over Jackson. Imagine he's got six consecutive W's on the scoreboard. Imagine what it says about the real meaning of this fight that he still wouldn't even be in the conversation about potential title contenders at that point, and we all bloody well know it.

VII. What does an MMA heavyweight look like?
From the corpulent, straight-outta-the-trailer-park look that Roy Nelson has cultivated, to the extremely tall, pale, and Dutch-as-he-wanna-be Stefan Struve, there's a range of heavyweight body types on display this weekend, with Frank Mir and Travis Browne hitting the points in between. Maybe somewhere in there is a look at the future of MMA heavyweights. Or maybe that's just what happens when a weight class spans sixty freaking pounds and a foot or so in height.

VIII. Just maybe, Brian Stann is the UFC's real American hero at middleweight, and right when it needs one.
You look at the former Marine with the square jaw, the 'aw shucks' demeanor, and a fighting style that ensures someone will probably get his face broken, and you start to wonder if the UFC didn't order him straight from central casting. The guy is practically a walking cartoon character of a butt-kicking, Apple pie-eating boy next door. He is, in other words, a godsend for the UFC. Imagine the perfect pro wrestling-esque storyline the writes itself as soon you match Stann against someone like Michael Bisping. Stann salutes the flag while helping old ladies across the street. Bisping dons a soccer jersey and begins sneeringly referring to Stann as a 'colonial.' I'm telling you, that kind of theatre is so priceless, the fight is almost secondary. First though, Stann has to get past Santiago, which is where things could veer wildly off-script. The former Sengoku champ can still swat - just ask Kazuo Misaki. It's a tough draw, but if Stann pulls out the win, look for the big push to start the moment his hand gets raised in the Octagon.
